Application for Locals Seafood

Our Mission:

Did you know that most North Carolina seafood is shipped up the east coast to northern markets? And that nearly 90% of all seafood eaten in the United States is imported seafood, which has far less regulation?

By creating a market for local seafood inside state lines, we can help instill stability and prosperity to our state’s fisherfolk, oyster farmers, shrimpers, fish houses, and processors. Providing access to North Carolina seafood for North Carolina consumers allows residents to directly benefit from their taxpayer-managed fisheries. This increases demand for North Carolina product across the seafood market, incentivizing coastal professionals to sell more product within their home state.

How you’d help:

Your key responsibilities as a Fishmonger would include preparing fish and seafood for sale, including filleting, scaling, and cleaning at our processing facility. Then you’d bring all of that fresh seafood to sell at one of our four Farmer’s Market locations. While there, you’ll be answering customer questions about the local fish and seafood that we offer.

If this would be your first time working with fish, we’re happy to help you get your feet wet. We’re rapidly expanding and are looking for people who want to learn and grow with us! We’ll teach you everything you need to know and everything you’d like to learn about seafood.

Your schedule would look something like this:

  • Tuesday: 11a – 10p* – Fish Processing
  • Wednesday: 9a – 4p* – Fish Processing
  • Thursday: 11a – 10p* – Fish Processing
  • Friday: 9a – 6p* – Fish Processing
  • Saturday: 6a – 2p* – Farmer’s Market Team
  • *Note: Clock out times are dependent on the workload for the day, and the times listed here are usually the latest times when the staff will leave.

When you work with us you get to be physically active, you develop a wealth of knowledge about seafood from our state, and you get to work alongside folks who love collaborating as a team to develop new and innovative ways to market and sell our products. Sure, it gets messy, and there are some low-tide smells, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be willing to become forklift certified
  • Must have a valid driver’s license of at least 1 year
  • Must be able to pass standard background check

Financial Benefits:

  • Starting pay $16 – $18/hr depending on experience
  • Commission based on sales at Farmer’s Markets
  • Merit based raises evaluated every 6 months
  • 3% matching Simple IRA
  • Health Insurance options
  • Upward mobility
  • Discount on seafood

Lifestyle Benefits:

  • Sundays and Mondays off
  • Collaborative team
  • Working with a growing local business
