Monkfish might be the ugliest fish in the ocean. It has an enormous, wide mouth and a tapered body. The nickname “anglerfish” comes from the flap of skin the fish wiggles around in front of its face to attract prey. Monkfish prefer to live on sandy or muddy bottoms and will eat just about anything. They have even been known to eat sea birds.
Monkfish has a sweet flavor, firm texture and white flesh, earning it the nickname “poor man’s lobster.” This fish is ideal for grilling, a pan sautee, or baking.
