Gray Triggerfish are flat with fins on the top and bottom of their bodies. They are bottom dwellers, preferring to live near wrecks, reefs, or structures on the ocean floor. They have sharp incisors to help them feed on sea urchins, barnacles, and mussels.

Often compared to crab, triggerfish meat is firm and sweet. The fillets come skinless and can be grilled, pan sautéed, baked, or broiled.

The skin is very tough and not favored by us humans, but dogs love it. We sell triggerfish hides as dog treats at the Raleigh State Farmers Market. The treats are best consumed outside where Fido can spread scales across the ground without consequence.
